What Is a Digital Printed Silk Tie?

A digital printed silk tie refers to a tie made from silk fabric with a design printed on it using digital printing technology. "Digital printing" involves using computer-controlled printers to transfer a design directly onto the fabric.
Traditionally, ties were often made using woven patterns or silk screen printing techniques. However, digital printing allows for more intricate designs, detailed patterns, and a broader range of colors. This technique enables the creation of unique and personalized ties.

Types of Digital Printed Silk Tie

Digital printed silk ties are a popular choice for men who want to add some flair and personality to their outfits. Digital printing allows for more intricate and colorful designs than traditional methods, and silk is a luxurious and durable fabric that feels smooth and soft on the skin. There are different types of digital printed silk ties, such as:

Floral Ties

These ties feature various flowers and plants, such as roses, orchids, lilies, or ferns. They are suitable for spring and summer occasions, or for adding some freshness and elegance to a formal look.

Geometric Ties

These ties have patterns of shapes, such as circles, squares, triangles, or stripes. They are ideal for creating a modern and sophisticated appearance, or for matching with solid-colored shirts and suits.

Animal Ties

These ties depict different animals, such as lions, tigers, elephants, or birds. They are perfect for expressing one's personality and interests, or for adding some fun and humor to a casual outfit.

Abstract Ties

These ties have designs that are not based on any specific object or theme, but rather on colors, textures, or artistic effects. They are great for showing off one's creativity and style, or for creating a unique and eye-catching look.

Custom Printed Silk Satin Fabric for Tie and Other Applications

Combining our 100% natural silk with the highest quality printing methods, your silk printing is a breathtaking fabric. We always suggest ordering a fabric sample or swatch pack so you can see how the colors translate on our natural silk fabric.

Surface textures
The front texture is a smooth, sleek, graceful fabric with a glossy shine to the finish of the lustrous face. In contrast, the back texture is just as smooth and soft and flowing but with a crepe finish to it, which actually changes the texture a lot, but still keeps the overall feel soft and fluid. The way this fabric feels on the body is so effortless that it almost feels weightless, it's very soft and moves over the skin very easily. When it comes to the drape, the material flows and falls in natural waves and folds.

Print detail
Unlike the majority of silk satin providers, we use reactive printing, the highest quality printing method and the only way to honor 100% natural silk. Being 100% natural fabric, no chemicals have been used on the fibers of the fabric. With a shiny finish on the face and a matt on the reverse, the detail of the final print is very fine and produces very crisp lines with rich block colors. Precision is clear here, intricate work will show up perfectly. Your print will also have a stunning luminosity, which you can only get with natural fabrics. Our silk is printed using a reactive printing process which creates superior color depth, wash and rub fastness. Unlike pigment, the reactive dyes we use bound to the fabric fibers, rather than lying on the surface - meaning your silk can be washed with other garments.

Usage
This high quality silk has so many uses, it's tough to choose just one. The lighter 1.47 oz can be used for light scarves and accessories, as well as finer details. The thicker 2.51 oz can be used for garments, lingerie, and scarves also. Your designs come to life on the highest grade silk with the greatest vibrant colors we can offer. We have lent our services to film and theater productions, for scene or dressmaking, and especially period piece work. Interior designers also use our digitally printed silk product for specific requirements in fine detailing and luxury finishes.

How Silk Is Printed on the Digital Textile Printer?

Designing
The customer's design or artwork is required to begin the process. It can be either digital or hand-drawn and then can be converted into digital format. Designers have many options, including the ability to use a wide range of colors. It is important to create designs that can be reproduced consistently.

Pre-Treatment
Silk printing requires pre-treatment. Silk must be coated with an external fabric finisher to absorb ink and accept it in order to ensure the best output. The fabric is in RFD (Ready for Dyeing) mode. A piece of fabric is print tested for calibration of the printer, as per the right amount of ink. Too much ink can cause the fabric to lose its crispness and low ink may result in the print losing its brightness and color.

Printing
After the fabric has been pre-treated, it is now in the RFDP (Ready for Digital Printing) mode. Now, the fabric can be passed through the digital inkjet printing machine to print the desired design. Silk fabric is printed by acid dye ink or reactive ink. Acid dye is water soluble anionic dye which shows brilliant bright colours and fastness properties. Before printing begins, the ink heads are adjusted to the right height. In order to create the desired design with vibrant colors, the head sprays tiny droplets of ink on the fabric.

Finishing
The last step in the process is finishing, which is the same for digital or screen printing. As silk is freshly printed, it is in the most vulnerable stage and requires utmost care. The silk needs to be steam-dried so that the ink and fabric fibers are bonded. Then, it must be washed to remove any residual ink and coating. Finally, the silk is dried and ironed.

Silk Tie Care Tips

Cleaning
1)A silk tie should never be washed in, or exposed to, water.
2)Always dry clean silk ties for best results.
3)In an emergency, act quickly to avoid permanent damage.
4)Never rub grease-based stains, blot them with an absorbent cloth or paper to pull the grease out. Then, try covering the mark with fine salt allowing it to absorb the grease for a few minutes before gently brushing or pouring the salt away.

General Care Tips
1)When removing your tie, never pull it at one end through the knot. This causes the lining and stitching to buckle. Always untie the knot as carefully as you would when putting it on.
2)Ties are best stored in a loose roll, created by rolling the tie around your hand starting with the narrow end. This helps avoid wrinkling.
3)Although most people do, it is not advised to hang ties when storing them. Gravity takes over and creases often result (particularly when ties are hung over a wardrobe tie rail – en masse).
4)Try to rest ties between wearings. Silk like all natural fabrics benefits from a rest.

A Tie's "Quality" Can Be Determined by a Few Things

The Envelope
Better ties are made from wool, silk, cashmere, cotton, or linen. Lower-end ties will be made from polyester. Quality material will drape better and give you a better knot.
Once a tie maker has the fabric, there's also how it's folded. A three-fold tie is the most common. While a six or seven-fold isn't necessarily better than a three-fold tie, it can take more skill and obviously more material. More folds = more weight.

Tipping
A better tie will often use the same material for the keeper and tipping. If the tie isn't tipped, then the edges can be flat-sewn or hand-rolled/hand-sewn, as you'd get with a pocket square. The quality of the hand sewing can also count.

Interlining
Better ties will have an interlining made from natural materials, such as wool or a wool blend. A good interlining helps the tie keep its shape, drape better, and shake out wrinkles after a day's rest. If a tie doesn't have a wool interlining, the envelope has to be folded over a few more times to give the tie to somebody. Lower-end ties will skimp on the wool interlining and use a higher content of synthetics, which won't relax as easily.

Stitching
High-end ties will have a hand-sewn slip stitch, although it's not uncommon to see high-end brands use a machine.

Finishing
Nearly all ties nowadays are pressed flat. Some of the very niche producers leave their ties gently finished, such as that edges have a nice roll. Hard to do this in mass quantities, especially when you're packaging them and shipping them in big boxes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Digital Printed Silk Tie

Q: What is silk fabric?

A: Silk is a natural protein fiber, cultivated from the cocoons of certain insect larvae. While a variety of insects produce silk to form their cocoons, only the silk of moth caterpillars is used to make silk fabric. The mulberry silkworm Bombyx mori produces the most well-known silk today. Raw silk threads from the cocoons are spun into silk yarn, which is then woven into silk fabric. Silk fabric is known for its shimmering appearance due to its triangular prism-like fiber structure. The shape allows for incoming light to refract at different angles and gives different visual dimension and richness to the fabric surface.

Q: What are printed ties?

A: Printed ties are made by printing a design onto a flat piece of fabric using a digital or screen printing process. The design can be any pattern, image, or colour scheme, making printed ties a versatile option. Printed ties are typically made from silk, polyester, or a blend of both materials.

Q: What is the difference between woven and printed silk?

A: The silk used in woven ties is generally thicker and the patterns will be far less detailed than in printed silk. This will result in a woven silk tie being generally heavier in weight, producing a larger knot. Printed silk ties will often use finer silk twill and have the pattern dyed onto the silk itself.

Q: What are the benefits of digital printing?

A: 1)Colorful designs: The option of having millions of colors to choose from for any design.
2)Highly detailed: Digital printing is better suited for designs with high levels of detail. Photographic prints that require a high level of detail can be easily printed.
Set up cost is minimal: Digital printing is faster, easier, and sustainable than screen printing. Digital prints yield faster output than screen printing because it doesn't require setting up of multiple screens. This reduces both the time and labor cost.
3)Time saving: Digital printing saves time and helps you meet deadlines. This method can handle large orders in a short time and has the ability to print multiple copies.
4)Minimum order quantities are smaller: Digital printing is comparatively easier than screen printing. Minimum order quantity required by manufacturers is typically lower making it an ideal choice for small businesses.

Q: What does it mean when fabric is digitally printed?

A: Digital Textile Printing is a process of printing on textiles and garments using inkjet technology to print colorants onto fabric. This process allows for single pieces, mid to small-run cycle production and even long-runs as an alternative option to screen printed fabric.

Q: Does digitally printed fabric fade?

A: Digital printing employs a heat press to bake the ink into the fabric, making it far less likely to crack or fade.

Q: Are silk ties actually silk?

A: Silk is the most common fabric for ties, a luxuriously soft yet durable natural fabric. Its raw material, mulberry silk, is a crude animal protein fiber. The inherent elasticity of silk fibers enables silk ties to withstand greater tension, making them wrinkle-resistant and maintaining their condition better.

Q: What is the best silk for ties?

A: Mulberry silk is the finest material in the world and the best choice of fabric for silk neckties. Silk neckties are a staple for weddings, company and client meetings, and other formal events that call for dressing up. At these events, you want to wear a tie that is comfortable to wear and unique.

Q: Can silk ties get wet?

A: Silk ties should never be washed in, or exposed to, water. Silk ties should be dry cleaned. We recommend that you use a specialist dry cleaner, particularly when the tie has a stain that needs to be removed.

Q: How much is real silk worth?

A: There are many different types of silk, the price can vary from $8 to $80 /yard. The price differences depend on silk farms and how they manage their silk supplies. Organic silk tends to be more expensive as the price to manage sustainably may be higher.

Q: How do you get wrinkles out of a 100% silk tie?

A: To unwrinkle a silk tie, you can try hanging it in a steamy bathroom while you take a hot shower. The steam can help to release the wrinkles. Alternatively, you can use a handheld steamer to gently steam the tie, being careful not to get it too close to the fabric to avoid damaging it.

Q: Should you iron or steam silk ties?

A: For delicate fabrics like silk, keep the steam farther away from the tie compared to fabrics like cotton and linen. Most of the time the wrinkles will come right out like magic. For deep set wrinkles, you may still need an iron.

Q: Is silk ruined if you wash it?

A: Despite what you've heard, you can wash silk in a washing machine. However, it's worth investing in a mesh bag to protect your delicate items from tangling or getting caught on other items during the wash. Follow the instructions for washing silk items in a washing machine.

Q: Is silk a luxury?

A: Silk fabric continues to assert itself as the epitome of luxury in textiles. Its rich history, unique properties, intricate production process, diverse fabric types, and influential role in fashion all contribute to its enduring appeal.

Q: What does fake silk feel like?

A: Natural silk is always gentle and soft to the touch - an instantly recognizable and unique sensation, like the fabric is slowly melting in your hands. Synthetic silk does not feel anything like this - it feels like a regular soft cloth.

Q: How to tie a half windsor knot in 9 steps?

A: 1) To tie a half windsor knot, first drape the tie around your neck. Have the wide end be about twice as long as the thin end.
2) Cross the wide end over the narrow end.
3) Bring the wide end under the narrow end.
4) Bring the wide end up and down through the loop.
5) Pull on the wide end of the tie to get the knot tight.
6) Place two fingers on the knot. Wrap the wide end of the tie around your fingers and bring it around to the back end of the tie.
7) Bring the wide end up through the loop formed by your neck and down through the loop formed by you fingers.
8) Pull down on wide to tighten the knot, adjusting the top of the knot to make it look like a nice triangle.
9) Pull on the narrow end of the tie and slide the knot up to your neck.
