Momme-Important Silk Fabric Specification Parameters
The important unit of measurement for silk specifications is the momme, which is a unit of weight, which is the same as the square gram of the weight of conventional fabrics.
Momme is a unit of weight, usually used to measure the thickness of silk fabrics. The unit " momme " is abbreviated as mm. The larger the momme value, the thicker the silk fabric.
Basic Formula
The formula for calculating the number of momme is: grams per square meter/4.3056.
1 momme = 4.3056 g/m2
16mm =16mome
Examples
1) If the material with a silk fabric width of 1.14 meters, and its weight per meter is 100 grams, you can calculate the thickness of this material to be 100/(1.14*1)/4.3056=20.4 momme.
2) If the material has a width of 1.40 meters, it is 100/(1.40*1)/4.3056=16.6 momme.

Cost
Typically, artificial silk items will cost less. If the item is cheaply priced, then as a general rule, the chances are that it is not genuine silk.
Colour
Silk usually reflects some light and will be coated, meaning the colour will not look 'flat' and will shimmer. If the colouring of the silk looks like a flat, block colour, then this is a signifier that it is artificial.
Smell
An extreme yet reliable method of telling real silk from art silk is to take a few strands of the material and set it on fire. When burning, genuine silk has a very strong smell.
Invisible Flame
When burnt, genuine silk will also burn with an invisible flame, and the burning will stop as soon as the flame source is removed. We do not advise setting any garments on fire and this should only be done in a safe and controlled environment, however, we have listed it here as this is a known method of testing.
Touch
As a naturally temperature-regulating fabric, silk can retain heat. This can be tested by rubbing a piece of silk between your fingers for a while to warm it up. Artificial silk, however, will not react in this way and the material will stay at the same temperature.
It's Labeled As Satin
While they often get confused with one another, silk and satin are not the same, with satin usually presented as a less luxurious alternative to real silk due to it being a man-made fabric. Discover more about what sets them apart by reading our Silk Pillowcase vs Satin Pillowcase blog.
The Ring Test
Pulling silk through a ring is a traditional way of checking its authenticity. The ring will slide smoothly over real silk, while fake silk will often bunch or get caught on the ring.
How to Remove Wrinkles from Silk Fabric?
Silk is a delicate fabric that can't stand the heat so do not iron silk on a high setting, use a hair dryer on high heat, or use the dryer to remove wrinkles. Being careful and keeping the heat very low will help you to keep your silk garment undamaged. However, the best way is to avoid the heat and protect the silk clothes from wrinkles in advance. You can do so, by placing just washed silk clothes on a hanger without folding so the folds won't become unwanted wrinkles and letting it dry avoiding the direct sunlight. However, if there still are some stubborn wrinkles, you can follow these ironing recommendations:

01.Damp The Silk
02.Set The Iron on the Lowest Setting
03.Prepare the Silk Garment For Ironing
04.Iron the Silk
05.Iron Next Area of Silk
06.Let It Dry
Wear it. When it's all cool down and dry you can wear your wrinkle free silk garment.
