Silk noil by the yard is a naturally off-white, blocky fabric. It has a somewhat rough texture but has a soft drape. Silk noil dyes well but is not well suited to the gutta-percha technique because it is heavy and gutta-percha generally does not penetrate heavier textured fabrics well. You may choose to apply gutta-percha to both sides of the fabric for your silk painting project.
Not only does it have the finest aesthetic, but it also retains the smooth, refined feel that is so sought after in silk fabrics. Silk Noil by the Yard is the best of its kind, featuring a satin weave that allows this fabric to maintain the soft touch and supple drape that most high-end designers desire. This fabric has many uses as it has a glossy side on one side and a matte side on the other.
Silk Noil by the Yard recommends hand washing in cold water, separating light colors from dark colors, using a neutral detergent, and hanging to dry. We tested sample yardage in the washing machine with warm water and tumble dried on low heat, and the fabric did not seem to be affected. Best care is to follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
