Real silk generally refers to silk, including mulberry silk, tussah silk, castor silk, cassava silk, etc. Real silk is called the "Queen of Fibers" and has been favored by people from ancient times to the present for its unique charm.

Since silk is a relatively high-end fabric, there are many fakes on the market that are inferior and deceive consumers' rights. Do you know how to distinguish the authenticity of silk?

1. Look at the price

The price of real silk fabric is about twice that of chemical fiber and simulated silk satin. If you encounter a silk garment that costs dozens of yuan, it is mostly fake, unless it is a clearance sale in a large shopping mall. Real silk is a natural animal fiber, not a fiber synthesized from chemical raw materials. After the silk cocoons are dried, selected, boiled, reeled, re-swayed and sorted, they are made into silk, and then spun and woven into clothing. The process is complicated and the cost of raw materials is very high.

2. Burning method

Gently remove the thread of the clothes and light it with a lighter. Since silk is a protein fiber, it has the same smell as burning human hair. Silk shrinks into a ball when it encounters fire, burns slowly, and emits a hissing sound. It emits the smell of burnt hair. After burning, it forms small black-brown balls of ash, which will break when twisted by hand. Fake silk smells like plastic.

3. Water identification method

Silk is hygroscopic and breathable. Silk will be soaked in water immediately when it encounters water. If conditions permit, take a corner of a silk scarf and drop a few drops of water on it. The scarf will be soaked in water immediately and stick to the skin.

4. Fold and touch identification method

Pinch the fabric tightly with your hands and then let it go. Silk products have good elasticity and no creases. Artificial silk products have obvious creases and are difficult to quickly restore to their original state. Silk products feel slightly pulled when touched by hand.

5. Listen to the sound

The surface of silk is protected by a layer of sericin. When rubbed, there is a special sound, which people call "silk sound", while other artificial silk does not have it.

6. Look at the luster

The luster of real silk is soft and uniform, bright but not dazzling. Although artificial silk is also bright, it has flashes or shiny silk, which is not pleasing to the eye.
For silk skirts/scarves/shawls/silk sheets and other related products, PONY Testing can conduct the following test items according to relevant standards: fiber content, appearance measurement, formaldehyde, PH, azo, odor, color fastness to dry and wet friction, color fastness to light, color fastness to sweat, color fastness to water, seam cracking degree, seam strength of trouser back crotch seam, tear strength, instructions for use, size deviation rate, safety performance, etc.
